I'm Lovin' Adjectives

This week my second graders are expanding on adjectives we have learned. We had a short review of what an adjective is, and then expanded to show how we can use adjectives to compare various objects by adding the suffixes -er or -est. We completed some examples as a class, then students worked on this McDonald's activity I created (students were curious the second I started cutting out french fries!)

I cut the fry holders out of red construction paper, and the french fries from yellow paper. Each student received one holder and three french fries. I  told each student they had to pick an adjective that I had not already listed on the board, and using this adjective they had to make sure they could write it correctly using the -er and -est form. (Some students needed assistance when having to change words ending in
-y.) On the french fries they would write the original adjective, the -er form, and the -est form of the word. They  glued their french fries into the holders.

The adjectives they came up with were very creative, and I let them decorate the holders to their liking. This activity was engaging and the students were "lovin' it!"
