Here's My Opinion...

One of the writing standards for 3rd grade states that students should be able to justify their own opinions through writing. This week my students are working on this skill by following a given prompt. My prompt was that the main character had to be an animal, and their opinion would come into play when they had to decide whether the animal would live in the wild, or if it would live in a house with a family. Once they met both of these criteria, they could tie in any adventures with their animal that they wished.

To review fact and opinion we first played Binky's Facts and Opinions on the Smartboard, so students were prepared before they began writing.

My students like to use our writing process clip chart when do we any sort of writing project. To expand on this, I created a product that is now free on my Teachers Pay Teachers. It helps students  follow along with this process while writing their opinion pieces.
