Welcome To Our Happy Camp!

If you knew me (or had talked to me whatsoever in the last three months), then you would know how unbelievably excited I am to be in my first ever classroom! This upcoming year I will be a third grade teacher, and I wanted to do a theme the kids would love. So welcome to our neck of the woods, where you'll find the happiest of campers!

One area that I wanted to be really special was the reading nook (or our place to sit around the campfire.) I wanted to add a tree, and this one was actually simple to make. After searching for inspiration on Pinterest, my mom gets credit for making this one look great. Just by taking bulletin board paper and scrunching it side to side, it looks like bark. The leaves were cut out with green bulletin board paper.

At my school the students also follow a program called Leader In Me. It is based on 7 habits, and the habits line the bark of the tree. Great for students to see everyday!

I knew I wanted a place in the room for students where the students could display something they really loved. This could be a test they got a good grade on, a project they loved, or a picture they drew. I put black construction paper on the wall, then hot glued clothes pins and string to look like a clothesline. The cute character tents to show each student's name were bought at the Parent-Teacher store. The characters around the fire can be found here (the fire logs coming off the wall add a fun touch!)

If you step into our camp, writing is a big thing. I had two extra desks that I turned into the writing center. In the mornings, or after finishing an activity, this is where students can pick up writing ideas and activities. From practicing cursive, to working on sentence structure, there's always something different to do.

This is also a fantastic clip chart to use for the writing process. Students will be looking at it everyday as a visual reminder, and the clips help them keep track of where they left off. Plus the camping theme fits perfectly (there are other themes available on TPT, this specific one can be found here.)

If you have a tree dying in your front yard, the twigs can make for a pretty nice sign!

I love this idea! I already had this poster, but it would also be really easy to create one of your own. Having a map with a number on each state, the students have to name whatever the state is. I have this in my room for students to look at all the time, and seeing it everyday will help them learn the placement of all 50 states.

These text feature charts are FREE on TPT. They add color to the walls, and no matter where students look they are always learning. These are terms they use often; it is great to have them displayed.

Motivational quotes-camp style!

Thanks for stopping by our happy camp! Can't wait to show you all we learn this year!!
